I still use some of the equipment I bought in 1979, and it works just fine. To set your own gym up is no where near as expensive as you might think, and you can do it one step at a time if you add components in a systematic manner, and have terrific workouts as you go.
Here are seven key benefits of having your own private gym.
1/ You train exactly when you want. You never have to wait until whoever has finished on the bench press so you can finally take your turn.
2/ Less distraction - youre not interrupted by other people, and youre not distracted by really fit women in spandex! You should be there to train, not to ogle. Much easier to stay focussed if you train at home.
3/ You save money - youre not paying subs year on year. You can get decent equipment second hand if you need to. You dont need huge amounts of fancy equipment to get a really good workout in. My home gym has paid for itself many times over.
4/ You should make far better progress, because its easier to really dedicate yourself to your training. I know so many people who missed their workouts because they couldnt face the journey to their commercial gym after work - if your gym is at home, you have to go home anyway, so you may as well do your workout.
5/ Youre not subjected to all the really bad advice that does the rounds in a lot of commercial gyms. Judging from some of the bodybuilding forums Ive seen on the internet, there is a huge amount of rubbish spouted about training with weights, a lot of it from people who actually claim to be personal trainers.
Youll see people doing set after set of pointless toning and shaping movements. If you go to a commercial gym over time youll see a lot of trainees dont change their bodies much - thats because what theyre doing is not working.
6/ Less chance of injury - if youre waiting for someone to finish using some piece of equipment before you can have your turn, youre getting cold - this means that the chance of getting a tear or some sort of muscle injury is greatly increased. These type of little niggles can take an age to heal.
If your training at home, you do your sets and reps exactly when youre ready to do them - your workout doesnt grind to a halt because of somebody else.
7/ You avoid all the idiots who take bodybuilding drugs. Stay well away from the pill heads if you must train in a commercial gym - of course if you train at home its not an issue.
I really urge you to start planning out your own home gym now, and in a year from now you may see a transformed body looking back in your mirror.
